This could be interesting. We could set a bunch of them up, each one would tune to a different frequency, and broadcast the talks going on at that time. We could put up a sign with the different frequencies that speaker is on. We wouldn't have to go too crazy either, at most there is 2 maybe 3 talks going on each floor at one time? a handful of low end freqs should do the trick. This way you can chill in the hammock area, and just tune in, turn on, and drop out.

I like that idea... a machine set up at each speaker location, all broadcasting the live talks over FM...
Definitely something that wouldn't be difficult to set up, and would be a really neat idea/addition.

We may be able to run the feeds over the LAN as well, this way you can tune in on your computer.

On the topic of hammocks, wouldn't having power at the hammocks take away one of the main reasons for people getting out of them? I wasn't there, but I'd have to imagine that dead batteries would have been a major cause of people vacating the hammocks, thus giving others a chance to use them?
I don't know if any of that makes any sense in the context; just my $0.02.

Which can be easily tinkered to around 1W of output. I've used these before quite well. ![]()
Just my $0.02 worth of experience.
Edit: I forgot to mention I'll be happy to assemble it too...

The hammocks weren't for sleeping. Primarily, it was a place to sit around with your laptop, but also it offered a good view of the screen. It was a nice place to sleep at night though.
i'm not condoning nor suggesting this, but could someone feasibly use the hammock area in lieu of a hotel room, given that they didn't care about privacy or taking a shower?

there wasnt enough space to actually set up camp as your own personal hammock. The area was very busy with activity so I doubt you would get any sleeping done.

If by keeping the segways safe you mean drunkenly riding into walls/windows/people and falling over then they were safe. I remember hearing in a drunken haze someone stating "you can't tip these over it's impossible" followed a couple minutes later with a skkiiiiiiiiiiiiii plump then "ha ha ha ha".
All in good fun

Why? There were problems with them but the attendees loved them. Granted there weren't enough for everyone to ride when they wanted (I only got to ride it once at 2am) but they went over really well.

thats the problem, the few that were around, were constanly hogged by the same group of people who refused to get off of them.

Hmm? There was a line for the Segways. I kept constantly going back in-line and got to ride them like 15 times, each for about 2 minutes. I don't think they were being hogged up at all except during the night.

So, really? Crunchy peanut butter?
I didn't get to ride the segways. They were always being Bogarted by the segway guys.

I got to ride the Segways. There were certain times that the Segways were for public riding and certain times they were used by security for those purposes. Perhaps when they were being "bogarted" were times that they were being used for security purposes?
And if the same 10 people were riding them, you could always say "hey, let someone else take a turn, wontcha?"
BTW, the hammocks seemed great, had I only gotten a chance to hang out in one. They were always full.
And, yes, some people slept in them at night. Someone mentioned to me that they wanted to make a way for people to come to the con even if they couldn't afford a room and that was a (limited) way. They told me to notice how people didn't get kicked out of them for staying too long or sleeping in them.
