Ham Radio Station N6H / Amateur Radio Testing

Did everyone really like that?

I spent a lot of time setting a lot of this stuff up, and brought a lot of expensive gear.

Was it worth it?

What did you like? What didn't you like?
Was having an exam session worth it? Now that the FCC has removed the morse code requirement from testing, all license levels will have access to HF (as of Feb. 24th, 2007).

I'd really like some feedback on this. Bernie, Redbird, Lyn and myself spent a lot of time before and during the con making this happen.

What could we have done to make things better? Easier?

Re: Ham Radio Station N6H / Amateur Radio Testing

I spent a little time looking at all the radio equipment. I missed out on the testing becuase I had a talk I wanted to go to and I was spending way too much time being a tourist and playing on the subways.

If you have the testing session next time around i'll definatly take part in it.

It would be great if you could do a talk about the stuff you're doing with the radio equipment early in the conference. I kept walking by thinking "I wish I had time to find out what all those things are they are playing with."

That's certainly a good idea. Maybe we can get a panel again next HOPE discussing all the interesting high tech stuff in ham radio like connecting radios over the internet, position relaying through radio, digital repeaters, GPS, building your own digital paging system, talking to the ISS, things like that.

I had the same feelings. A talk early into the con would be great.

I would love to be more involved with the station next time - particularly since I'll have upgraded to an extra ^^

We Definitely should set up events with the station - like contacts for demos and such along with the for fun calling. I'd be glad to help with that.

We could set up the coat room on 18 as a radio room, get you guys out of the hallway and set up the control room for a low power FM station in the same spot.

I brought my HT and worked the special event station.  I would like to do it again.

Re: Ham Radio Station N6H / Amateur Radio Testing

I didn't have my ham license last HOPE but I have it now. I got it last summer and I haven't been able to find anyone on the repeaters (perhaps because my reception in my apartment is poor). I'd love to actually participate in this and finally talk to some people.
