this might not be the best place, topic wise to ask this...
but
has anyone ever thought to document the HOPE convention?
ahh, to relate it to the thread...
the dailies could be shown as part of all night activities... assuming the interveiwed attendies are interesting enough.

Organize a formalized shorts festival? Hmm... I guess I could run with that. Somebody is going to have to help with publicity. How many projects am I associated with now?

One, (two if you are doing the cameras). Publicity, call Jen, i'm sure she'd be glad to help. ![]()

I mean publicising it to people who make short films, not just within the hacker community.

Late comer to the thread
We definitely need 24 hour caffeine access. And about food and liquor - It's not that easy. Not only would we have to worry about ID'ing, ABC agents (who WOULD come), legal responsibility, seperate age areas, and food ... You still can't serve liquor and thats what most of us want. As for food - the health code problems will prevent us from letting people sleep in the convention area (or any of the area licensed for food and that would be the entrance floor and main floor). Also - NYC isn't as dangerous as you seem to fear. I'm a jersey resident born and raised and have been going to nyc my whole life. Granted I don't wanna stroll through Noho or North Harlem at 1am on Saturday, but the area around Hotel Penn arn't bad. And the reason they publish the little guide is so that people can stroll around and find food. And for those of you that haven't been to HOPE or NYC, New Yorkers and NYPD are helpful. You ask for advice or directions and they'll give you a nudge in the right direction.

The Hotel is not licsenced for food. They do not have a food and beverage department. So regardless of whaere we sleep, we would not be in violation on that level.

i'm sure i can handle making this trophy as well. tho if we give out Jolt trophies for everything, i'll need some back up.

there was a quick dicussion once that this idea was mentioned. however it was months ago, and i'm not sure if it's still being worked on, or if it was given up on.

Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

It doesn't matter about the hotel's licensing - If we get catering or a food/beverage license we fall under the health code. And unfortunately these temporary permits cannot just specify a 20'x20' area on the first floor. Also I'm not positive about NYC but I know in Jersey the area food and booze is consumed in also has to be covered by the license.

check http://abc.state.ny.us for info on liquor consumption and license

okay, how about people are volunteered to make burger runs on the segways.
and whom ever makes it back first and with the least maimed pedestrians gets a jolt trophy...
Offline
Well you have to clear the trophy with Bunni, thats her department.
Offline
hehe - good one - We wanted to do that last time and were informed segways are banned for civilian use on the streets, sidewalks, and public areas of manhattan
'course NYPD can ride around on them :: pout ::

For anyone who has ever seen the "Hand of God" episode of mythbusters, I think we can rig something up to do the job.

Pirho - you just got a million points in my book for using Mythbusters as a reference!
And yeah - We will just tap into the 480 volt boxes at the convention center .... 'Did you feel God?' ^_^

We should do something to that effect, give people a nice little jolt for the jolt.
