NYC Metrocard

Reading http://sephail.net/articles/metrocard/
and http://www.2600.com/mta/MetroCard

I have become very interested in decoding the metrocard
have also purchased a msr505c magnetic encoder reader/writer

I am using libmsr - http://code.google.com/p/libmsr/
as a utility for the msr505c in linux

but im having lots of trouble reading the metrocard,
libmsr has a raw read option but it will output in hex
there is some decoder that will convert the card data into binary, but it seems to incorect; referencing to the known start sentinel it can not be found in the output from libmsr505c

i have also posted some request for help here:
http://www.codeguru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=491176

any ideas of how to get this working,
would it be necessary to build custom hardware?

thanks

Could try contacting sephail. He should have a contact email on his site where you were. Someone else may have some advice too.

Re: NYC Metrocard

I think the whole point is they don't want their cards easily decodable. Let's see how many cards the sell with that cat out of the bag. That said, I know a lot of people have/are working with things like that and there's a fair amount of searchable info on the metrocard encoding.
