I think the Prisoner theme of HOPE Number Six didn't really work. Many people I spoke to at HOPE had never heard of the Prisoner. The propaganda/big brother theme of the 5th HOPE was much stronger, and really added to the con.

I actually liked the Prisoner theame. I'm relitively young so i only heard of Prisoner in passing and never seen the show but i think it did work for Hope 6. And i did catch a couple of the episodes while on the hamocks.
I did also like the theme of the 5th hope. I think i still have a few of the posters ![]()

I knew about The Prisoner and thought the theme was only kinda meh. (And I still want to know who had Badge #1.)
Honestly, I've only been to 2 HOPEs (The Fifth HOPE and HOPE #6) and I have to admit... the themes have been kinda cool, but honestly, kinda depressing. Yes, I know that we're in rough times right now. Yes, I know that we really have to keep an eye on our civil liberties, etc. But a lot of us get that in our face every day (or worry about it all the time). I go to HOPE to relax and have a good time. Perhaps not having a theme that shoves it in our face how sucky our society is right now would be a good thing? Go more cyberhacker-ish or retrogamer or something? Yes, I know it's been done to pieces, but something more technological and cool and less serious and "scary" would be awesome.

the #1 badge was handed out at the closing ceremony. i couldn't even begin to remember his name. BUT i remember he was wearing a blue shirt and black hat, and he had longish, dark hair.

I'd love to see who (aside from the core staff and that guy) had the lowest badge #.

the lowest that was found, outside core staff and speakers, was #301. which after 90$, a pin, and one very forceful "give me that badge." was in the hands of thurman. we went through hell looking for the lowest.
supposedly the badges started at #300, but there was no #300 to be found. they were given out in the order that people checked in, by groups of 50. so #301-350 were first, then #350-400, etc, but not in perfect order. the first person was given the badge somewhere in the group of #301-350. i had #361, at least 50 people got their badges before me.
anyways thurman started out with badge #1032, if i remember correctly. and slowly bought and fought his way down to #301. hence his forum name of "number-301".
</story time>
oh and obviously all core staff had the blue #2 buttons, and speakers had the green badges ranging up to #200. i never did find anyone with a badge number between 200-300. i did find the person who was "almost leet" aka #337, and took a picture. never came across the person with #1337, but people said there was someone with it.

i was quite content on getting my number of #361. i was even more content to get my hands on a blue #2 badge. *hugs for the unnamed source* ![]()

See now the Green badges don't count cause you were guest speaking. The Red ones are the only ones that count and I'm looking for the person who had the lowest red badge when they recived it.

well ask thurman who he took the #301 badge from. lol. besides that, i'm the only one who has said my badge number(the red one).

#329 (although it should have been much lower)

I liked the theme, but I didn't feel it was a strong as the 5th Hopes Big Brother.
I can see where your coming from C4bl3Fl4m3, but that would take away from the importance of the ideas and messages that the Hope conference is trying to convey. We all wish it a better place, but you can't forget about the current state of the world or else you will fall into the same groove as the single minded masses.

Yeah, I know that, but where I live (Washington DC) I couldn't forget the current state of the world even if I wanted to. It's shoved in my face all the time. There's nothing wrong with getting away from it all and geeking out for 3 days. I understand that HOPE wants to convey the message of the importance of freedom, but perhaps they could convey it in a more positive way next time. Kind of a "Take back your world, Hackers!" thing instead of a "you're under big brother" gloom and doom thing. It's like, why create an environment where it's stressed even more? Where you're surrounded by the actual face of Big Brother (or a frantic man). Why not create an environment where we see us overcoming Big Brother and taking back our world?
