Does anyone have any more DVD rips of the talks from "The Last Hope"? My adam Savage DVD is corrupt and I don't know the contact info for the company. Can anyone rip what dvd's they have any put them on a tracker?

http://www.mediaarchives.com/ did all of the DVD recording and sales (and would be responsible for any sales that happened during the conference). Their phone number and email address is on their website.

http://talk.hope.net/viewtopic.php?pid=6938 has the tracker link - and the Adam Savage talk is there.
However, if you got a corrupt DVD, it'd still be a good idea to have the company send you a new one.

It might also be that the first (maybe all?) of the Adam Savage DVDs were burned onto +R media. The guy at the DVD booth mentioned that to me when I got mine, but it worked fine for me in my laptop.

Dealing with the DVD people is likely going to be a frustrating experience. My Adam Savage DVD is corrupt at the end, and the three copies of my own presentation are all blank. I heard that happened to several other people as well. Obviously, the people doing the duplication were very busy, and it's understandable that a few blunders happened.
What is a problem is that there's no way to reach them. Their web site says to email them, but there's no email address on the web site or whois. They list two phone numbers. One is rapid-busy since the con, the other just rings and rings.
Fortunately I paid by credit card, so if I don't get the problem fixed I'll be happy to have them take my $200 back. I'm pretty confident it will all be resolved eventually, but my hopes of it being fixed before Christmas are dim.
Next time I'll make sure to record my own talk ![]()

I was worried about stuff like this happening.
However, from what I understand, people who did their talks will get free copies sent in a few weeks from now.
But yes, recording your own talk is a very good idea.

I just noticed that Media Archives *does* have an email address on their site. The front page has HTML code from two different versions of the page. Scrolling all the way down (or possibly looking at the source code if your browser chokes on it) shows mediarchives (at) yahoo.com.
$5 says the mailbox is full. :)

ya, there's been a few problems with some defects and blanks out there, so if you're havin problems just drop me a line mediarchives (at) yahoo.com The only valid number is 1.800.952.5678 and voicemail should be working in about a week, again...
in the meantime you can d/l some of the keynotes on google video... the jello biafra keynote is having problems posting, but here are the other three:

This may be a stupid question but I'm assuming that seeing as various talks' videos have already been posted online (as demonstrated by the last post) that we can convert the DVDs we purchased into other formats and post them ourselves?
I would just like to be sure as I would not want to post something that is being sold. I was a witness to the hard work that was put in to record these talks and do not want to post something that someone is expecting to sell solely on DVD.

Just a follow up. I *did* get a reply from Media Archives and they are taking care of my defective discs. So, I guess I loose $5 on that one ![]()
Someone asked about rips. Actually, they suggested that some of the talks I wanted were already being traded on-line, so I guess they don't mind. The discs are labeled "(c) 2008 Presenter and www.TheLastHope.org" Doesn't look like the DVD company is retaining any rights to it based on that.
If you want to make a donation to either organization, I'm sure they'll accept it.

Some are up on their YouTube, I hope they keep updating:

I saw several people had gotten the DVDs, so maybe one of them could hop onto the irc channel and rip it. ![]()

Anybody have a rip of the Phreaking 110 talk? I gave it but I never got the dvd of my own talk and didn't really see it on the Media Archives table. Heh, hopefully it was sold out.
You do get a free copy of your talk. I walked up to the table at the con, told them who I was, and they gave me my talk on DVD. (Now to FIND those DVDs and learn how to rip them, encode them, and put them up on bittorrent and youtube. I've never done any of this video stuff before.)
If you use the contact info at http://mediaarchives.com/ you should be able to get in touch with them.

I think I brought that one, so if you don't get satisfaction in a timely manner through e-mailing dvd man, I'll see if I can't get it up on youtube or some such tomorrow.
(This is of course under the assumption that its not corrupt or something... 'cause I haven't yet checked and I've heard stories...)

It's .mov and I know, I know... and apologize. I don't know how to upload it to that torrent site ATG seems to be taking care of and I considered posting the five links google or youtube (redundant?) would have needed, but it was taking a long time but I will if quicktime isn't cool enough.
Also, the beginning isn't there but I swear it was like that when I found it.
edit:
Oops... my dvd only has four and a half minutes on it. I love that feeling of good value and quality control.

Speaking of missing sections on DVD, did they ever find the first 15 minutes of the "Packing Heat While Flying The Friendly Skies" talk? Of all the DVDs I bought (about 6 of them), this is the only one I have that is missing anything on it. Not bad seeing as they were doing this on the fly and I saw how crazy things were at the DVD table.
In any event, I know they were asking at the ending ceremonies whether anyone had this section of video. Did they ever find it? I mainly bought DVDs of talks that I wanted to go to but had a conflict with another talk that I wanted to see more (or was down in the locking-picking village). Therefore I've never seen the beginning of this talk and would very much like to.

I'll repost the tracker here since this seems to be an active thread - the tracker that I run is http://hopetracker.donthax.me , which has videos from about 1/3 of the talks, all provided by others who ripped the talks from the DVDs.
If you have DVDs of talks that aren't listed, let me know and I'll tell you how to rip them. It's quite easy and shouldn't take more than 20 minutes of you actually doing stuff (it will take a few hours to rip though.)

ATG, would it be possible to insert a "date added" column for the torrent listing?
Thanks for running the tracker!

Unfortunately, I don't think I can. The tracker I'm using doesn't log the date added for some reason.
I'll have a better tracker running by the time The Next HOPE rolls around though.
Edit: As a hack, I can have it sort by item added rather than alphabetical - would that work better?
Edit 2: Newest talks are now at the bottom - I'll reverse the order after I sleep (just took out the ORDER BY statement... I'll figure out the proper way later).
